Sienna Sky has introduced new designs of earrings, some of which we added a couple weeks ago, and some of which will be added in the coming weeks.


One of their new designs includes a pair of German Shepherd earrings. We have also added these whimsical cat earrings with heart; although not a very new release, we thought they were perfect for Valentine's Day.

Fur Free Fashion Competition for Designers

If you are an independent fashion designer dedicated to creating humane fashions, this is for you.

Born Free USA and E / The Environmental Magazine are holding a fur-free fashion design contest called fffashion. Prizes include cash, gift bags from cosmetics company Urban Decay, recognition in E Magazine, and media exposure.

Judges include Sophie Uliano, bestselling author of Gorgeously Green; Summer Rayne Oaks, eco-model and resident expert for Discovery Channel's Planet Green; Brita Belli, editor of E Magazine; and Josh Dorfman, author and host of The Lazy Environmentalist which airs on the Sundance Channel.

The first ten entrants will also receive a special gift from Urban Decay.

Humane Scorecard 2009: How Did Your Legislators Vote?

Do you know how your federal legislators vote when it comes to animal welfare issues? You can find out by viewing the 2009 Humane Scorecard just published by the Humane Society Legislative Fund. Several of the issues the legislators were scored on included fur labeling, chimps in research, overuse of antibiotics in factory farms, and horse slaughter, among others.

I find this report extremely useful at telling me how my US senators and representative are doing in regards to protecting animals. If they did especially well, I call to offer my praise. It is one of the important tools I use at election time.

Help for Animal Victims of Earthquake in Haiti

The International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) and World Society for Protection of Animals (WSPA) is leading a coalition to help the animal victims of the earthquake in Haiti. It's called Animal Relief Coalition for Haiti (ARCH) and is joined by other animal welfare groups including ASPCA, HSUS, Best Friends Animal Sanctuary and American Humane.

Happy National Bird Day!

Today is National Bird Day. Every year on January 5th, Born Free USA, in coordination with the Avian Welfare Coalition, takes this day to recognize the splendor and importance of all birds. They also want to help raise awareness to the plight of exotic birds, both those in captivity, as well as those facing extinction in the wild.

The organizations have put together a website full of information, ways to get involved, and fun activities like sending virtual Bird Day postcards.

Born Free USA is also hosting a Fly Free online auction to help raise scholarship money for Guatemalan college students who could otherwise not afford the money for expenses. They believe this program will allow the students to help save populations of parrots.
