Today is National Bird Day. Every year on January 5th, Born Free USA, in coordination with the Avian Welfare Coalition, takes this day to recognize the splendor and importance of all birds. They also want to help raise awareness to the plight of exotic birds, both those in captivity, as well as those facing extinction in the wild.
The organizations have put together a website full of information, ways to get involved, and fun activities like sending virtual Bird Day postcards.
Born Free USA is also hosting a Fly Free online auction to help raise scholarship money for Guatemalan college students who could otherwise not afford the money for expenses. They believe this program will allow the students to help save populations of parrots.
