The Truth About Some Animal Rescues and Sanctuaries

I think people who devote their lives to rescuing and rehabilitating unwanted and neglected animals are heroes. Most of them do this work for the right reasons. Unfortunately, there are so-called "sanctuaries" that operate with unscrupulous motives. And they manage to dupe well-intentioned supporters. You've probably read or heard about one of these "sanctuaries" that use their status for profit and gain.

A few days ago I received a newsletter put out by Foster Parrots, a parrot sanctuary located in Massachusetts. Operated by Marc Johnson and Karen Windsor, these folks are definitely some of the good guys. I was pleased, and not at all surprised, to see that they are accredited by The Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries (GFAS) whose supporters include organizations such as Born Free USA, Humane Society of the US, and ASPCA.

If you are a rescuer, care about, or have an interest in rescuing and rehabilitating neglected animals, I recommend checking out their website. Aside from finding a list of accredited rescues and sanctuaries, they have informative articles and resources.
