More New Far Fetched Designs
Last month we introduced new designs by Far Fetched from their Mima & Oly line.
We've added four new pieces, including the dog in doghouse necklace pictured here, as well as matching earrings. Turtle lovers will adore our sea turtle necklace and matching earrings.
Jewelry from the Mima & Oly line are made of a copper, nickel and zinc alloy. The chains are silver plated over brass, and earwires are silver plated over surgical steel. We think they look as good as the Far Fetched sterling silver pieces, and at a much more affordable price.

Fight for Horses
With all the heart-wrenching stories about animal cruelty we are regularly bombarded with, it is so wonderful to hear heartwarming stories, as well as about the victories and people who are making a difference.
This morning I read an article about 9-year old Declan Gregg, who has joined the fight against horse slaughter. He has already testified before the New Hampshire Environmental and Ag Committee, and will travel to Washington, DC next month to deliver letters to Congress from children who oppose horse slaughter.
Declan has also created a blog called Children 4 Horses, encouraging other children to write letters that he can take with on his trip to DC.

National Justice for Animals Week
Yesterday was the start of National Justice for Animals Week, a project of Animal Legal Defense Fund. Each day ALDF will post an action alert that you can participate in. You can follow ALDF on Facebook or via their blog.
On the Animals Week webpage, you can also find a wonderful section called Resources for Fighting Animal Abuse. The page is filled with resources to help you be a better advocate for animals; and it includes a guide for becoming an activist within your own community, what to do when you witness cruelty, and much more.
If you want a career in which you can make a difference for animals, ALDF is hiring as of this entry. This page also has information about internships, events and other opportunities.

James Franco, Kevin Nealon, PCRM and Apes
The Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine has a new video, which I urge anyone who cares about animals, to watch. It outlines the awful life of the approximate 1,000 Chimps living in research labs throughout the US. James Franco and Kevin Nealon have joined in this crusade, which is wonderful, as celebrities are important in bringing issues in front of the public.
At the end of the short film you can take action by asking your US legislators to pass the Great Ape Protection and Cost Savings Act.
Warning: It's a tearjerker.

Happy National Bird Day!
Happy National Bird Day! Not only that, today marks its 10-year anniversary - that's 10 years of putting exotic birds in the spotlight, and bringing much-needed attention to the issues they face, including exploitation, abuse, loss of habitat and poaching.
You can help spread the word by sending a National Bird Day virtual e-card. It's fun, fast and free. The more people we make aware of this, the better. : )

National Bird Day in the News
Only two more days until the official celebration of National Bird Day - and it's been getting some good press.
Today an article written by Born Free's Will Travers which appeared in the Huffington Post.
An article by Denise Kelly, president of the Avian Welfare Coalition appeared on Truthout.
And my article made it into the the Capital Times.
There are some great activities planned for National Bird Day. What do you have planned?
